So many small stones that I've hopped over today.
Didn't take time to pick one up, feel the pulse
of life within it, or pocket it. All I can think
of now is the two rabbits that dashed across the street
and sprang in front of us as we were heading to the park trails.
They were like startled stray cats with their tails
bobbing, then blending into the bushes...
Later when I finally walked home (sans my mother and sister),
I spotted another garden rabbit. This time, its nose
was twitching, its body like a bronze statue,
and its ears erect as if it was picking up
the whispers of balmy breezes or songs of fresh grass.
